The SWEATER STONE

Sweater Stone is a natural pumice which has the unique ability to remove pilling from knits with each sharp edge of a broken cell. It actually cuts the filament that holds the pill to the garment while the cell breaks off, removing pilling and restoring the nap on fabrics.

Pilling commonly occurs on a fabric when fibers that are worked loose by rubbing, form little balls. The pills don’t fall off because they are held to the fabric by the fibers that still hold firm. Loosely woven and knitted synthetics and blends are the typical candidates for pilling. Usually, it’s the stronger synthetic fibers that hold the pill to the surface. Pilling can happen to clothes, blankets, and upholstery fabrics. However, sweaters seem especially vulnerable.

Yes. And for a very good reason. Each tiny cell has the ability to give way under pressure to prevent snagging of the garment.

My Trial Of the Product and Comments:

This is a product that interests me, naturally, as I make knitwear, I also like the fact that it uses no batteries.

I have so far tried it on a fine transparent Cotton/ Polyester cardigan that pilled as soon as I wore it, the inside boucle part of some ultra thick Woolly Wool/Nylon socks , a Polyester chenille blanket , a fine knit Acrylic jumper and some ultra fine boucle Wool knit.

The Sweater Stone works very well on the combination synthetic/natural fibre and all synthetic fabrics on which the lint shaver doesnt cope so well as the pills tend to be small, plentiful and anchored well.

On the superfine boucle Wool knit it gave a slightly more combed appearance to the knit, however this was still better than looking at pills on the garment.

I think there is still a place for the battery operated pill shavers on the super fine knits where you dont want to fluff up the fabric, but for partial synthetics this works incredibly well.

I used a fairly firm motion, and it is best to hold the fabric firmly on your knee or a table top.
